Second step- Discovering
where you might be:
Consider these questions for just a moment to explore a
little more.
Ø
Overall,
what do you notice?
·
What is a surprise?
·
What did you already know?
Ø
What’s
working for you?
·
How do you know?
·
What benefit are you receiving?
Ø
What’s
not working as well as you would like?
·
How do you know?
·
What’s the cost to you?
Third
Step – Discovering what you might want:
Looking at the statements above, pick one statement where you
would like to make a change--not should, or need to, or supposed
to--pick one where you want to or are willing to make a change.
(Just pick one for the sake of this exercise.)
Next
step – Discovering what you will do about it:
Now, choose one, small, measurable, realistic, action
step from what you have noticed to create positive movement toward
the change.
Examples: Take a walk three times in the next week for 3 minutes;
close your office door for 3 minutes at 3:00 PM on Monday, Wednesday
and Friday next week; make a list for 3 days of your strengths,
adding to it every day as you uncover them; ask one person in the
next 3 days what they might need from you for them to succeed.
Last
step – Discovering what happens!
Do it! When your week is up, take a few moments
and explore what happened by going through the questions above in
the second step. Now where might you be?
